Minor characters of Inuyasha

Nanushi

Name: Nanushi

Literally meaning, "Leader of Village," Nanushi was in the episode where a Fake Suijin was threatening the village with floods, if children sacrifices were not brought to him. When his own son was "called," Nanushi told Taroumaru to hide, and replaced him with his servants' son, Suekichi. He would lose neither child, though, because the Yasha gang came to the rescue.

Naraku's Baby

Name: Naraku-no-akago (Naraku's Baby)

Naraku's sixth detachment was an infant known as Akago (literally means "baby"). When we first meet him, he has the mind of an adult and can speak clearly. He first uses his powers against Kagome, using the tiny shred of evil in her heart (resulting from jealousy over Kikyou) to take control of her mind. Kagome thankfully breaks free, but Akago isn't done yet. He begins to use his powers to look into the hearts of dying monks to see "the world between this and the next" as part of his overall mission as a minion to Naraku. However, one monk in particular uses the last of his holy powers to literally split Akago in half. Kagura takes one half that grows into a boy by the name of Hakudoushi. Hakudoushi, for all intensive purposes, is Akago except that he's bigger now. However, the other half, taken by Kanna, becomes a whole baby again, but now it's known as Naraku no Akago (literally "Naraku's baby"). So, pictured at left is both a picture of the original 'Akago' and the new 'Naraku no Akago.' It's the same, and yet not the same. So what was left inside of this half? Hakudoushi's heart, to be sure, but Kagura strongly suspects that Naraku's own heart resides in this little bundle, too.

Nazuna

Name: Nazuna

In only one episode, Nazuna was a villager that the Yasha gang met while searching for Shikon shards. She hated demon since local spider demons and their boss, Kumo Gashira, had ransacked all the nearby towns and killed her parents. She was staying with a monk at a temple when the Yasha gang met her, but it turned out that the monk was the Kumogashira in disguise. Inuyasha saved the lot of them, so by the end of the episode, Nazuna learned that not all demons are bad.

Nikuzuki no Men

Name: Nikuzuki no Men (Flesh-Eating Mask)

A demon created by the combination of a Shikon shard and a cinnamon tree (from which a Noh Theater Mask was carved). Kagome encountered this demon in her own time. One of the shards that burst from the Shikon no Tama in episode 2 was embedded in a cinnamon tree, and the mask was carved from that tree. This demon, craving a body since it's only a mask, devoured human bodies, but Inuyasha didn't have too hard of a time killing it.

Nobunaga

Name: Nobunaga

A servant that Kagome and Inuyasha met, who was on his way to rescue his secret love, Princess Tsuyu (who didn't know he loved her), from the lord she'd married, who had reportedly gone insane. Inuyasha, Kagome, and even Myouga helped him. It turned out, though, that the lord had been possessed by Tsukumo no Gama (an ugly toad demon). And he had a Shikon shard! They managed to drive out the youkai from the lord's body, and get their Shikon shard. However, poor Nobunaga had to leave Tsuyu with her restored husband.

Ogre Princess

Name: Ogre Princess

This demon disguised herself as the daughter of a castle lord, taking over his mind and diverting attention to his "strange" behavior to keep everyone's eyes off of her. The Yasha gang arrived at her castle with Rouba no Haraiya [Old Exorcist Lady], following the lead that this castle was the epicenter of a great amount of jaki [evil energy]. She had been killing monks and priestesses to absorb their holy powers, and Miroku would have been the last one she needed to completely revive: number one-hundred. He survived her efforts thanks to Sango and the old exorcist lady. The ogre princess was eventually sucked into Miroku's Kazaana.

Onigumo

Name: Onigumo

This man is a former thief. Having been beaten nearly to death by Rasetsu and the comrades he betrayed, his burnt and broken body was covered by bandages and lain in a damp, unknown cave. His savior was Kikyou, who came frequently to feed him since it was her duty as a priestess to help the needy. He harbored a dirty love for her, and his jealousy of her love affair with Inuyasha turned his already tainted human heart into a source of evil. Demons gathered, and he offered his evil heart to them in exchange for a new body. With this new body, he became Naraku because a demon consciousness overshadowed and swallowed his own. Naraku still could not kill Kikyou, though, because of the love that Onigumo still retained. Naraku attempted to slough Onigumo off of his ever-changing body, forming the short-lived Musou, but his attempt failed. He supposedly succeeded, though, in later ejecting the humanity out of his body by creating "Naraku's Baby," a complicated and confusing creation.

Hyounekozoku no Oyakata-sama

Name: Hyounekozoku no Oyakata-sama (Leader of the Cat Family)

His title translates to "Leader of the Cat Family," and he appeared in the Cat Arc of the anime series, which was not in the manga. His four children (Karan, Shunran, Shuuran, and Touran) were working to resurrect him, which would have rekindled war between feline and the canine demons. Lots of canine demons appeared for this arc, including Inuyasha, Sesshoumaru, Kouga, and Rouyakan. When he was resurrected, he stole the youki [demon energy] of his own children, but was slain by the combined efforts of Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru, who fought each other the entire time as well.

Rasetsu

Name: Rasetsu

This old man was once a gang leader for a group of thieves. Now very, very old, he meets Kikyou, who is on a journey to find Naraku halfway through the series. He is a rare find since he's pushing seventy, and we learn that he and his men were responsible for the horrendous injuries to Onigumo, the human that turned into Naraku. He dies at the end of his episode, having reached the end of his life.

Renkotsu

Name: Renkotsu

A member of the Shichinintai [Seven-Man Group], this "dude in the 'do rag" was by far the most devious and backstabbing member of the group. Whereas other members of the Shichinintai are pretty loyal to Bankotsu, Renkotsu only does as he's told because he's afraid of Bankotsu. He gets pretty cocky during their arc of the series, thinking that he has the stuff to beat Inuyasha and Bankotsu because he had a couple of Shikon no Tama [Jewel of Four Souls] shards. He's dead wrong, though. To note, he and fellow member Ginkotsu are both into guns and other more modern kinds of warfare.
